IKEA is turning November 28 into a family-friendly holiday celebration packed with freebies: complimentary photos with Santa, cookie decorating at the IKEA Swedish Restaurant, hands-on crafts, and a limited-edition IKEA Bag keychain (bag charm). Space is tight and most activities require advance registration, so acting fast is essential. Many perks are reserved for IKEA Family Rewards Members, a free-to-join program that also unlocks exclusive offers and a birthday freebie.
What’s Free on November 28
- Free photos with Santa — no registration needed.
- One free, limited-edition bag charm for IKEA Family members (reserve in advance).
- Picture frame workshop for IKEA Family members ages 12+ — includes one free frame and all supplies to keep or gift.
- One free cookie plus decorating supplies at the IKEA Swedish Restaurant.
- Holiday card making — free card and supplies to keep or gift.
Bonus in-store hunt: Spot the adorable Gnome Plush hiding in the store and tell an associate — you could score a free dessert in the restaurant or a small gift. Events may vary by location, so check your nearest store for specifics.
Who Can Participate
Most activities are open to IKEA Family Rewards Members, and membership is free. Joining enables you to reserve the limited-edition bag charm and participate in select crafts, while also receiving ongoing member-only offers and a birthday freebie. Santa photos are open to everyone and do not require registration.
Hands-On Holiday Fun, With a Little Style
The standout goodie is the mini IKEA Bag keychain: it’s cheeky, instantly recognizable, and built like a tiny version of the blue classic — a playful flex on your keys or tote. The craft lineup strikes a smart balance: a free, ready-to-display picture frame workshop for ages 12+ and card making that turns a quick store stop into a thoughtful, take-home moment. Add in cookie decorating at the Swedish Restaurant and the drop-in Santa snaps, and it feels like a compact holiday festival where you walk out with gifts you actually made — and a charming badge of IKEA fandom swinging from your keys.
How to Lock In the Freebies (Pro Tips)
- Register immediately: Most events require advance sign-up and fill quickly. Head to your local store’s events page and reserve your spots, including the bag charm pickup.
- Join IKEA Family first: It’s free, fast, and required for the bag charm, frame workshop, and many member activities. If you’re on-site, you can enroll at a kiosk before check-in.
- Confirm store details: Offerings and times vary by location — verify which activities your store hosts on November 28 and note any age guidelines (the frame workshop is 12+).
- Bring your membership barcode and confirmations: Have the IKEA Family ID in the app or email and screenshot your registrations in case of spotty signal.
- Time it right: Santa photos don’t need registration, but lines shrink earlier in the day. Hit the restaurant during off-peak hours for cookie decorating.
- Ask about wristbands or pickup windows: Some stores manage flow this way; confirming on arrival can save your spot.
- Secret score: Keep an eye out for the hidden Gnome Plush. Alert an associate when you find it to snag a free dessert or a small gift.
